St Petersburg

A trip from Helsinki to St Petersburg and back on St Peter Line's DFDS-owned cruise ferry Princess Maria:

Helsinki harbour

The deck bar - oddly named 'The Drunk Rabbit' and serving 'themed' fast food.

 Passing Sveaborg

 Smart Viking XPRS

The dining room - little altered since the ferry was built in the early-1980s.

St Petersburg arrival.

 Brutalist suburbs.

 Downtown Art Nouveau.

Metro trip to the suburbs. The escalators are magnificent.

 Whizzy university building.

Tree in park still with Christmas decorations.

 Back on the Metro.

 Stalinist Art Deco stations.

Derelict power station, designed by Erich Mendelsohn.

Back aboard Princess Maria:

Dinner - herring followed by venison.

  1. When I was on the Princess Maria earlier this year there was a garish row of slot machines in front of the large forward window in the dining room. Based on your photos the casino area there has been somewhat downsized overall, which can only be a good thing. Especially with those slot machines being removed.
